I'm brand new to video editing/creation, and am a bit baffled by all the options. I have an older analog Canon Hi-8 camcorder on it's last legs. I've captured video from it using a Hauppauge WinTV-PVR 250 (.mpg files.) Kdenlive handles them just fine. We recently bought a JVC Everio GZ-MG630 but I haven't played w/it's output much yet.
What I'm most interested in at the moment is creating a DVD which will play on a stock DVD player hooked up to a TV - i.e., I'm not worried about YouTube or computer based formats for now. When I select to render, what is the best output format to get reasonable quaility and something that will play most anywhere?
I've watched several of the tutorial videos, which were great, but didn't really touch upon why one would use one format vs another.
Thanks much. BTW, Kdenlive has performed flawlessly. No crashes, able to deal w/all the formats I've tried (.mpg, .dv, etc.) I've got a lot to learn still but it's been a joy to use so far. Thanks much to the all the developers and folks that have taken the time to provide documentation!

It was also good to tell us where u found that option. I'm very curious where u found that VOB output option cause I'm trying to do the same thing.
Look in the render window for "Destination" near the top. One option is "File rendering" which is probably what you've been using. Another is the DVD option. This is what you want.
Opps, never mind. I just found the DVD/vob output option. Doh!
