Composite Transitions not working with disorted track

I am using clips taken on a JVC Everio SD Camera, and when I import the clips they are squashed, not cropped from 16:9 to 4:3. i solve this by adding a composite transition with 100% transperancy for the whole clip, with distort checked. However, that makes it so I cannot fade between tracks.
PLEASE HELP! THIS IS URGENT!

I tried that but it will only work when i get to 2x ratio, and that is too wide.
