Hi ,
My JVC everio camcorder produces 720x576 widescreen SD Video as .MOD files (Mpeg-2). My problem is that my favourite editor, Kdenlive, insists on editing in 4:3 mode. It also renders in 4:3. How can I get Kdenlive to edit and/or render my widescreen files in 16:9 aspect?
Ubuntu Jaunty Jackalobe 64bit
Kdenlive Version 0.7.3
Using KDE 4.2.2 (KDE 4.2.2)
Thank you
Greenhaven
Are you using correct profile? (Try: Project > Project settings > Profile > DV/DVD Widescreen PAL)
If it is a bug, it may be fixed in newer version of Kdenlive.
When you render with the 16:9 project settings, do you get a 16:9 picture frame with black bars left/right of your video?
If so, what does Clip properties in Project content say? Which pixel aspect ratio?
Does your video look "sequeezed" as well?
IF SO, then FFmpeg or MLT was not able to determine the correct pixel aspect ratio. Double-click the clip in the Project Tree, click the Advanced tab, enable the Force pixel aspect ratio checkbox, and enter: 1.422
If that does not seem to help. Save the project, restart kdenlive, and reload the project. Any better?
There is currently no way to force aspect ratio by default... One nice thing would be to enter your camcorder info into our database: http://kdenlive.org/video-editor and provide us a small video sample so that we can check against FFmpeg's latest revision if the aspect ratio issue is fixed.
If not, I can try to think of a way to force some settings on a group of clips...
regards
I am having this exact same problem, I have tried both things sugested, checking the forced aspect pixel ratio and putting 1.42 in there, as well as switching to the DV PAL widescreen.
It still does not work, no matter which way I render it out. (have tried several different render formats)
Running Ubuntu 8.1
Kdenline 0.7.2.1 KDE 4.1.4
Sometimes it will render out with my voice very high, as if it is speeding up the audio, but that is just wiht some formats of render, not with most.
I record in 16:9, and Kino takes it and renders it that way.
But, whenever I drag and drop the same clip over to Kdenlive, even in the project tree it is already squashed to 4:3, and I cant get it to either display or render in 16:9.
Any help? It is very frustrating, as the clips that I am rendering out kinda need to not be squashed, it makes the products that I am reviewing look very distorted.
Kdenlive is like the only editor I have found that I like a lot, its so versatile, and easy, but it is getting hard to keep using it and I cant figure out how to get it to 16:9.
I would be fine with it being displayed as 4:3 as long as the final render would be in 16:9.
HELP?
Try to use the tool SDCopy which fixes problems with the 16:9 flag in MOD files.

Unfortunally it's for windows only, but it supposed to work with wine.
If you know german you can find more informations here:

Kdenlive version 0.7.2.1 is really not recommended. A lot of important bug fixes were committed in Kdenlive 0.7.4 and 0.7.5, including a bug that made the "force aspect ratio" unusable.
Please consider upgrading to the latest Kdenlive version (but I don't think it is possible with Ubuntu 8.1...)
I would love to upgrade, but if you say it is not possible with 8.1, then what am I supposed to do?
Project settings > Profile > DV/DVD Widescreen PAL does not fix the 4:3 display in the monitors. I will install a later version of Kdenlive.
Thanks very much for your reply.
