Dear friends,
I updated our Ubuntu package page with recent packages:
http://www.kdenlive.org/user-manual/downloading-and-installing-kdenlive/...
Could you install these packages and report quality.
In particular, I need:
- Output of ffmpeg command.
- Which versions of dvgrad and swh-plugins
If you previously installed Kdenlive using the wizard, please uninstall any FFMpeg, MLT and Kdenlive files in /usr/local.
Thank you in advance.
OK, I removed and reinstalled. I've got 0.7.1 up and running now. Thank you.
But I don't hear audio on kdenlive now.
It's ok for me too.
I removed, then reinstalled with the new packages baudm, and it's works very fine.
Updates also work well.
Great thanks for all this work on Kdenlive which become the best video-application on Linux !
Happy new year 2009 !!
Bonnée année et bonne santé !
I installed it too and it works fine until i try to play an added clip. I get a SIGABRT everytime i try to play a clip that i added.
Not sure what i did to fix it but i rebooted the machine and everything works like a charm! I use to have 0.6 installed before with the initial kdenlive, but it crashed after only having 3 videos up. Now i pull up the same videos in 0.7.1 and works great!!
I too was able to launch Kdenlive 0.7.1 after I removed all source installs, reboot, then install from ppa.
I am running Kubuntu 8.10 with Kde 4.2 beta
It worked good so far and I will post any other issues I encounter (hopefully none)
Thanks a lot and Happy New Year to all.

Like River reported in an earlier post, I also have no audio from either previewed or rendered clips from Kdenlive. This happened with both versions 0.7.0 and 0.7.1. Audio plays fine when clips are played individually using Totem. These are all AVCHD clips shot at 1080p, 30hz using the Sanyo HD 1010 camcorder. Since it records to an SDHC memory card, clips are imported to a folder on the hard drive first, via USB. Then I just drag each clip into Kdenlive from the folder. Kdenlive settings are for ATSC 1080p, 30 hz. I also tried ATSC 1080p at 29.97 hz, still no audio. Everything else seems to work in Kdenlive, the only issue seems to be the lack of audio going into it or coming out of it. When I look at the properties of the rendered project, it shows the same audio codec and settings as the original clips, MPEG 4, AAC, 48khz.Here's a copy of my ffmpeg version....

Let me know if I need to change anything or if it's a problem with the package.
The help files are not installed. Cannot pull up help through kde help.
I had v0.7.1 running fine under Intrepid but then did an apt-get update or something to that nature and Kdenlive stopped being able to control my camcorder. DVGrab is at v3.1 and can still control the camera fine.
I uninstalled Kdenlive and attempted to re-install...however I get:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
kdenlive: Depends: libmlt++1 but it is not installable
Depends: libmlt1 but it is not installable
Depends: inigo but it is not installable
E: Broken packages
Sorry about the momentary breakage. I had to delete the mlt and mlt++ packages to be able to re-upload the *.orig.tar.gz from the last merge from Ubuntu. Also, please manually re-install mlt and related packages because the new package version numbers (-0ubuntu1~ppa?) are lower than the previous (-1~ppa?) (mistake in package version):
sudo apt-get -y remove libmlt1 libmlt-data && sudo apt-get -y --force-yes install kdenlive
Excellent, I tried installing again and the packages were found. Thank you!!
I'm having the same issue with video capture inside Kdenlive.
I can connect to my camera (Sony TRV25) via firewire ok. However once connected video & audio is "stuttering". I have to press the stop button and the video/audio goes away. I can hit stop, rewind or fast forward and it is fine. If I hit record, it will play the footage but will not record. If I hit play it will play.
However, playing or recording will play BUT I get dropouts and audio "blips"...
At this point I have to do a dvgrab outside of Kdenlive and then import the clip.
Is there anything more I can do to debug this for you?
I just confirmed that the stutter on playback and record in Kdenlive is reproduceable in Kino. Kino will actually produce a clip file but Kdenlive does not.
The resulted clip file has the "stuttering" in the clip...so it's dropping frames or something.
A straight dvgrab from the command line will produce excellent results. If I open an existing project with clips or import any (good) clips into Kdenlive they will play fine....it's just when interfacing with dvgrab....
So it seems there is some issue with Kdenlive/Kino interfacing with dvgrab....
I should have mentioned in my previous post regarding sound issues, that I had already tried all combinations of sound drivers and devices available, none provide audio. Since I'm using Ubuntu Intrepid 64 bit, I suspect this problem may be related to the default Pulse Audio drivers installed with Ubuntu. I tried removing Pulse Audio using Synaptic, but was greeted with the warning that doing so would also remove the entire Ubuntu desktop, so I chose not to. If anyone knows how to remove Pulse Audio without affecting the Ubuntu desktop, please let me (us) know.
howdy,
I've tried everything listed on this page as far as installing 0.7.1 of kdenlive goes.. but nothing works yet. I'm still getting libmlt errors, and when trying to get that taken care of (via dpkg), it turns into libavcodec52 hell..
any thoughts? i'm on Intrepid, and uptodate as of 1/8/09
Thanks.

Hello,
I've installed kdenlive but when I start it I get this error (in french in the text ...):
Impossible de trouver le module avformat (FFMPEG) de MLT. Veuillez vérifier vos installations de FFMPEG et de MLT. .....
MLT have been compiled and installed from sources ...
Any idea to correct this ?
Thanks
"MLT have been compiled and installed from sources ..."
I also did the same but never worked. Kdenlive kept crashing when launched.
I suggest you use the binaris in the PPA repository using "Adept Package Manager". Make sure you remove all traces of binary & source first before you install. This worked like a charm for me.
Good luck
-Abe
I believe you can disable PulseAudio temporarily by unchecking it in the GNOME Session manager under Preferences. Then, you need to logout and login, or maybe reboot to be more confident the daemon is not left running when you logout.
I did a new install of kdenlive for Intepid following the instructions and the program crashes every time I try to add an .avi clip, but works fine with .dv clips. Is there something else I need to install to work with .avi?

I have just tried Kdenlive 0.7.1 on Kubuntu 8.10 amd64 kernel 2.6.29.9 and I have seen an important improvement over version 0.7.0 (on Mandriva 2009.0). I have seen rendering menu is more user friendly, including more options to choose. Interlaced DVD rendering has also improved although is not still perfect (I can still see some horizontal lines and some blocking in high contrast areas).
The program runs stable and I welcome its translation into Spanish. Capture monitor has improved as well although It do not run as smoothly as I wish. I have not seen any problems with audio (as far as I know Pulseaudio is not installed yet as default in Kubuntu). I have had problems with pulseaudio too in Mandriva 2009 and Ubuntu 8.10 (I think it is a problem probably connected with the specific chip implement on my Dell hardware).
Keep doing such a good job!

Using dvgrab v3.1
Crashes randomly while attempting to connect to camcorder. (HV30 firewire)
I find that I can only use it to capture and render. There are not transitions or effects that work. I can splice clips together ok.
There are no options to pass to dvgrab from within kdenlive. It produces 1GB files and I would like it to not split the files at the default 1GB limit.
I'll open a bug tracker for dvgrab.
As for MLT, my machine is a fresh install of Xbuntu v8.10 and then all the updates applied per Adept and then I followed the procedures to install the binaries for Kdenlive.
That doesn't work for me; I still get the same error messages as the author of post #10
I can't install kdenlive in ubuntu intrepid ibex. I have followed the instructions at www.kdenlive.org/forum/binaries-ubuntu-810 but when I try to install it I get the error:

What amd I doing wrong?
Will be fixed in a while... http://www.kdenlive.org/forum/warning-regarding-ubuntu-ffmpeg-packages
I had an error today with the update. See attached file for the logs of synaptic. (sorry it is in french). The error is found from the fourth line: "dpkg : erreur de traitement de..."
The update manager is hanging up at the last line.
My system: Xubuntu 8.10, i am using the package
http://ppa.launchpad.net/baudm/ubuntu
It could be that the update has been relased this week, i don't update every day ;)
It was an update, not a new installation. I'll try to deinstall and install new.
Thanks.
PS: I didn't found a specific topic about the update 7.1.0, so i post here.
Edit: It seems that I have a problem of public key: trying to apt-get update returns:
W: GPG error: http://ppa.launchpad.net intrepid Release: Les signatures suivantes n'ont pas pu être vérifiées car la clé publique n'est pas disponible : NO_PUBKEY B00E04A9D58062FB
How ca I install the public key? I don't found any info about it
Thanks

Now it works. Thank you!!!!
I still had no luck with installing this version of kdenlive....
But I managed to install the debug symbols, and got a bactrace, although the app told me it's useless:

I'm quite sure that It's all about the right versions of the packages, but i don't know which ones should that be. ..
I installed the latest version yesterday and it all worked like a charm.. Edited a few HDV clips together and exported to DVD VOB files.. Steep learning curve since its my first attempt at video editing but Kdenlive worked perfectly..
Thnaks a lot for this great software..
The solution type in the terminal:
gpg --keyserver hkp://keyserver.ubuntu.com:11371 --recv-key D58062FB
gpg -a --export D58062FB | sudo apt-key add -
sudo apt-get update
Now the ppa repositories are signed

Hi!
I've got a problem on my laptop.. I've just installed kdenlive (o.7.2) but when I try to start it (even on the shell) it stops on the configuration of the software... Something like: "this is the first time you use kdenlive... ecc...".
On my computer at work I've kdenlive and it works perfectly... (o.7.1).
Any ideas!?
Thanks!
Gigi
Hello,
First, thank's for all the work,
but.............., I don't now the Kdenlive 0.7.2 have problem, very slow, and jerky, when I have it in focus, mouse up the kdenlive window, is nearly unusable and if click some where on the screen, it's better,
also I have not choice in the rendu panel, except in dvraw and in the first window install for the first time, no codec, available,
I don't understand why,
I am newbee in linux, but Kdenlive 0.7.1 was working perfectly,
is coming from Ubuntu pakages ppa
if it's possible how can I restore 0.7.1
best regards
E.
Ubuntu keeps an archive of previously installed packages. On the command line, type:
cd /var/cache/apt/archives
ls kdenlive*
You should see which versions of the packages you have in the cache. Try installing the desired packages with
sudo dpkg -i <package-filenames>
Probably dpkg is going to complain about version mismatches of the installed dependencies, but the dependencies should also be in the cache; add the relevant package names to the command line until the dependencies are fully met.
Hi!!,
you are right, I find the archives, but in the same time I re-install all the ubuntu, and now the archives is lost,
thanks for the help.
I learn how to do for the next time,
I will try to make it all new,
thank's for the quick reply.
Best regards
E.
Just tried following the directions to install from command line. I received the following error:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
kdenlive: Depends: kdelibs5 (>= 4:4.1.3) but 4:4.1.2-0ubuntu10 is to be installed
E: Broken packages
So...
chillimac02, enable the intrepid-proposed repository, update your package lists and then install everything again.
same problem. Same problem when trying via synaptic too...
Hi!,
After the inconvenience like you say, I re-install, all the pakage, Kdenlive bye the normal way,
ppa, and now miracle, all is working, but I thing you Have to look to the focus , because when you are in focus with your mouse is comming kerky, I give the right 666 to /dev/video0 and I don't understand but it's better, also can you tell, witch libs we have to activate, driving in the smog is no easy, I am comming from the windows world,
otherwise you make a very good job and god will surely give you a nice medaille,
E.
did you do as I say i.e. to update the repositories?
If yes, please check if you can force install the version of kdelibs5 from the intrepid-proposed repository
If this still doesn't work, try to remove everything that you've installed that depends on the conflicting version of kdelibs5 package and install everything again.
I've tried to install kdenlive but got the error that a few people have reported, but has subsequently being fixed. Have a few packages broken again?
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
kdenlive: Depends: libmlt++1 but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libmlt1 but it is not going to be installed
Depends: inigo but it is not going to be installed
E: Broken packages
Hello,
To automatically add date to firewire captured file, dvgrab 3.1 is not enough, I compiled dvgrab 3.3 and now the option is not grayed out anymore. Maybe this version should be added to the PPA archive.
Barberousse.
you need to enable backport repository, and it will work.
