Hello,
Kdenlive detect my camera and I can connect it, I could control it from the recording monitor (I can rewind, etc), but I could not capture or see the image on the monitor. The status message stays on "Initializing ... ' and when I try to capture I get another message saying the file is broken.
Anyone have any suggestions for me? Using Ubuntu lucid.
Thanks for your help and sorry about my "Google Translate English".

Do you see the image when using "dvgrab" on the command line?

I forgot to mention that I've installed all the suggested packages and I have the version 3.5 of dvgrab and the problem still happens. The same happen in Kino.
My camera is a Sony HVR A1p PAL, tried unsuccessfully dv and hdv format.

That is an HDV camera. Kino does not support HDV. In Kdenlive Settings/Capture/Firewire, you must set the capture format to HDV. Did you do that?
dvgrab does work with both DV and HDV, but it will not display any images on its own. It should capture to a file. If it can not, then the problem is in a library dvgrab is using or the kernel driver. Most cameras work, but I do expect there are some that just will not as that is the nature of technology compatibility.
