Summary0002910: dubbing feature not working
DescriptionIssue number 757 http://www.kdenlive.org/mantis/view.php?id=757 [^] is "it would be great if this program includes an audio recording for doing voice over purpose.. " and this is down as being resolved.
With JBM saying "Under the "Record monitor", choose FFmeg capture and enable audio only. You can then play your project and press the Record button in rec monitor. "
Well I have just tried this and if I play a project and then press the rec button in rec monitor the project stops playing back. And as soon as I switch back to project monitor audio recording ceases
Steps To ReproduceStart audio capture via record monitor and ffmpeg setting. And then switch to project monitor. Audio recording will cease.

Yes, there were many changes in the way capture works, and now we pass through MLT to record audio / video. But my last commit should fix the problem, please test when you can.

Ok. It now works as advertised in issue number 757. To record voice over you start the playback in project monitor and then hit record in record monitor and then switch back to the playing project monitor. At this point you can record voiceover while watching the preview play back.

You can not do it in reverse order though. ie you can not start audio recording and then switch to the project preview. It would be better if you could do it this way - because other wise your preview runs ahead before you get to start your audio recording. I am sure the workaround for this would be to have your project have some blank space at the beginning. But that is a bit clunky.

But this is all pretty minor stuff. So take it or leave it really.

Ok. Some times is does work starting the audio recording and then moving back to the project monitor and hitting play. Can't figure out what makes it sometimes not work. What I see is that sometimes when I click the project monitor tab while being on the record monitor tab then I don't switch tabs as expected. And the audio recording stops.

Wait now I have figured it out. If you were last on the clip monitor tab then go to record monitor and start audio recording and then click the project monitor tab - then it fails. You don't go to project monitor and the audio recording stops.

But it does work if you start on the project monitor tab (don't have to have the project playing) and then go to the record monitor and start recording and then go back to project monitor then that works fine.

@l-b-m: Is this not the usual behaviour on swtiching the monitors that the record task is stopped. (Monitor->stop() callback on activate monitor call ?)

@eddrog: Yes, currently when switching to a monitor, we stop all other monitors. This is necessary because we use the SDL consumer for video display, and SDL does not support more than one active surface, which causes all kind of troubles in Kdenlive.

After this release, we should be able to use OpenGL as default display which should solve many problems. However, I just committed a fix that should solve this issue, please test.

Tested on
kdenlive 0.9.3+git20121231.1a07028e-0ubuntu0~sunab~precise1
mlt 0.8.7+git20121230.3bb1f0f7-0ubuntu0~sunab~precise1

And it looks good. Can start audio recording even if previously selected tab was clip monitor.
So this is looking good.

I also tested firewire capture of video and this is working OK too. (regression test)
